Director of the Salisbury-Rowan Choral Society

Our History

The Salisbury-Rowan Choral Society is preparing to celebrate it's 100th season.  However, the choir began forming even before this!  The Choral Society has a rich heritage of performing outstanding music to our local community and beyond.  The Choral Society has performed throughout the local area as well as Washington, DC and Europe. With everything from Bach and Handel to Broadway and Doo-Wop, there is something for everyone!  The Choral Society performs three concerts per season, their annual Holiday Concert and Spring Pops Concert, and this year an early spring Masterworks Concert will be added.  The Choral Society is made up of people from all walks of life and all levels of musical training.  No matter who you are or how much training and experience you have, you are welcome to join the Choral Society. The Choral Society is open to all singers 16 years old and above.  There is no audition for the society, however, if you are new to the chorus, the director will need to meet with you to ensure proper placement within the chorus.

Also, there is a chamber ensemble, "Una Voce" which is open to singers from the full chorus by audition.  Una Voce performs at all SRCS concerts and holds an annual jazz & blues concert during the summer.  This premier vocal ensemble has received outstanding reviews for their mastery of music styles ranging from madrigals to vocal jazz.

Our Director

Damien Evans is in his second season with the Salisbury-Rowan Choral Society.  Damien was raised in the suburbs of Dallas, TX where he became involved in music at a very young age.  Damien has been involved in band and choir most of his life.  Damien was chosen for the Texas All-State choir and performed in many cross country musicals.  Damien has also performed for and is a member of the International Association of Jazz Educators, American Choral Directors Association, and the National Association of Teachers of Singing.

Damien received his education in Music Education from the University of North Texas.  At UNT, Damien studied voice under Dr. Cody Garner, Dr. Linda DiFiore and Dr. Su Yong Kim.  Damien studied Vocal Conducting at UNT under Dr. Jerry McCoy and Ms. Rosemary Hefley and had the amazing continuing education opportunity to also study conducting and choral technique under Dr. Lloyd Pfautsch at Southern Methodist University Perkins School of Theology and Meadows School of the Arts.

Before moving to North Carolina, Damien worked as the Director of Music and Fine Arts in the United Methodist Church.  His choirs transformed from struggling ensembles to premier performing ensembles throughout the Dallas area and the state.  The children's choir, under Damien's direction, was named choir of the year by Chorister's Guild in 2003.  Damien served as President of the Board for Chorister's Guild and a scholarship was given in his honor through the Texas Choral Director's Association. The Adult Chancel Choir, under Damien's direction, received numerous requests to perform throughout the metroplex and was honored to be invited to perform at the Texas Choral Directors Association Convention in 2005.

Damien resides in the Kannapolis/Landis area with his dog, Scotty.
